The Tournament
Spectacular win for John Catlin in the Estrella Damm N. A. Andalucía Masters 2020, an European Tour event that took place from September 3 – 6 at the Real Club Valderrama. The best golfers returned to the Sotogrande course following the Tour’s comprehensive Health Strategy and the recommendation of the local health authorities, so it was held behind closed doors.
In a stage reserved for world-class winners that have hold 25 individual European Tour events, John Catlin won after beating Martin Kaymer. The American player managed to hold off the rest of the field, although he couldn’t beat a Valderrama course that once again showed its teeth.
Catlin’s victory is the second win of an American golfer at the Real Club Valderrama. The golfer from Sacramento follows the steps of Tiger Woods, who won the WGC American Express Championship at the San Roque course in 1999.
Great finish for an atypical but very successful Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters sponsored again by Estrella Damm and the Junta de Andalucía. Among the highlights of the tournament, the Golf for Good initiative that donated €100,000 to four local charities: FEGADI, Academia Andaluza de Gastronomía y Turismo, Fundación Aljaraque y Por Una Sonrisa.
